It’s December and NCET is celebrating all month! Join us at Bumblebee Bloom’s winter wonderland as Katie Knapp—third place winner of 2010 Governor’s Cup Business Plan Competition—provides an update on her journey from winning a college business competition to operating one of Northern Nevada’s most successful flower and gift boutiques.

Katie Knapp has successfully grown Bumblebee Blooms from concept to successful business and has recently moved to a new location with larger shop space. She will give a behind-the-scenes look at the technology of running a brick-and-mortar flower boutique with a strong online sales business, including ordering, inventory, trafficking and delivery—along with a recap of the challenges and lessons she has learned along the way. Her flower wholesaler will be on hand to reveal the complex supply chain that brings fresh flowers to the store, and describe how flowers are graded.

Bumblebee Blooms Flower Boutique is known for the creative and beautiful floral arrangements prepared for all occasions, but a visit to this bright yellow boutique beholds more than just flowers. The shop offers a range of gifts — including jewelry, lotions, candles, customizable accessories and gourmet foods—and offers unique home decorations for holidays and seasons.

Katie Knapp, owner of Bumblebee Blooms, was a third place winner of the Governor’s Cup business award in 2010. Her dog, Wyatt, has been with her as she has grown the shop from a plan into a successful business.

This month’s Tech Wednesday will also have a touch of holiday magic and plenty of time to mingle with new and old NCET friends.
